Electrical Maintenance Bradenton and Sarasota FL

Electrical maintenance by Luminous Electric

Electrical problems account for thousands of household fires each year, take hundreds of lives and cause millions in property damage. Luminous Electric maintains a wide variety of electrical products to make sure your electrical system is operating properly and your home is free of defective wiring.

Here are some of the maintenance activities we perform in the course of a routine electrical inspection:

Inspection of breaker boxes to ensure proper connectivity

Improperly installed and old breaker boxes can cause various electrical problems in your home including blown breakers, power shortages to lighting or appliances, and home fires.

Check meter bases to verify proper grounding

Is your house grounded properly? The most important part of your home’s electrical system is your house ground. To ensure maximum protection from accidental electrocution, have your house grounding and meter base inspected.

Inspect wiring in attic

As part of our routine inspection, we will be sure all wiring in attics and crawl spaces are properly connected and are rated to handle the electrical load they are carrying.

Testing of smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors

It is important that all smoke alarms, whether hard-wired into your home or battery operated, are maintained properly and in working order at all times. For homes with gas furnaces and appliances, carbon monoxide detectors should also be installed and maintained. We will check to make sure these systems are in proper working order and fresh batteries are placed in these devices.

Verify proper G.F.C.I. Protection is installed

A ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) is the only protection device designed to protect people against electric shock from an electrical system. Many areas require them to be installed and for those that do not, it is a wise decision to have them installed anyway.

Check for Arcing Switches

Turn a wall switch on and listen for a noisy crackling sound. If you hear such a sound for a second or two, turn the switch back off. The sound you hear is called arcing. Arcing occurs when a loose or defective electrical connection allows electricity to ‘jump’ from one electrical contact to another. Because sparks may occur within the switch area, an arcing switch is a prime candidate for a fire. It should be inspected and repaired by a qualified electrician immediately.
